Chinese Dietetics at allergic and skin dieseases
1. Allergic rhinitis and asthma patients
Important points in nutrition and daily life
A. The food listed below should be avoided:
I. Food with cold-cool character :Bananas, pears, celery, musk melon, beer, turnip, Chinese cabbage, bamboo shoots, tofu, white wood ears (bai mu erh), watermelon, papaya, zucchini, watercress, oranges.
II. Allergenic foods
Mutton, goose, duck, smelly tofu, shrimps, crab, mangos, fried eggs, dried longans, lichees and cow milk should be eaten less.
III. Cold and frozen food
Ice-cream, frozen yogurt, ice-water, cold soft drinks.
B. The following things in the daily life should be avoided:
I. Don't wear nylon clothes, since they contain polyesters, which easily cause allergies.
II. Don't let the air-con run over a long time and avoid a too high level of air-moisture indoors. Carpets and tatamis (straw mats) are also better not to put into your living quarters.
III. Be careful with keeping pets (cats, dogs, birds etc.) in your room.
IV. Do many exercises, since moving increases the incretion of the cortex of the adrenal glands (to produce cortisone) which is absolutely beneficial for patients with allergic rhinitis or asthma.
C. Dietetic advises
I. Eat often chicken soup
Preparation: First cut the skin and the inner organs of the chicken into small pieces, add 5 times the amount of water and a bag of tonifying herbs (bu bao) to it and cook it over a small fire for 1-2 hrs. Patients can drink it daily at least twice about one rice bowl of it. If taken continuously, the effects will be felt very soon.
II. Eat often seed of Job's tears/pearl barley (Yi Mi or Yi Yi Ren). This can also often prevent new attacks and besides that it strengthens the body.
2. Acute conjunctivitis
The main symptom of acute conjunctivitis are itching or painful, red or bloodshot conjunctiva (the white part of the eye), commonly called "red eyes". The dietetic measures against it are foods that have an anti-inflammative effect, foods which are cool and clear heat, like boxthorn leaves, wild rice stems, winter melon, bitter melon, zucchini, mung beans, chrysanthemum flowers, water melons, fresh lotus root, kaki fruits, banana, watermelon, tea leaves clams etc.
Not recommendable are scallions, Chinese chives, garlic, chili, alcohol, mutton, dog, fresh ginger and all hot, spicy, irritating foods which increase "fire" (inflammation). Forbidden are all foods that could worsen the present situation of the diseases, like scabbard fish, sturgeon, freshwater eel, shrimps, crabs, pig skin and heads from pig, sheep (brain) and chicken.
3. Skin diseases and urticaria
In clinical experience a few animal sorts and products like fish, shrimps, crabs, milk, beef oil, butter, eggs and others. are often observed to cause allergic reactions. turtles, some meat sorts (chicken, goose, sheep, beef, pork), fungi (dried and fresh mushrooms), as well as garlic, onions, chives, tomatoes, chili, cucumbers, pickled vegetables (kimchi), Szechwan pepper, fennel, and some more.

Fermented,sweet food should better be consumed in only few amounts, like pastries, cookies, cakes, chocolate cookies etc.
3. Oil-fried, greasy food
Deep fried, roasted, or stir fried things easily produce "fire" (promote inflammation), so that one should avoid to eat too much of them. to this group belong i.e. mutton, fried shrimps, Chinese crullers, barbecued meat, grilled potatoes, fried chestnuts, roasted peanuts etc.
B. Points of attention in the daily life:
1. Staying up late shouldn't happen often, a good mood and regular digestion are also important. When the sleep is lacking, the mood is unstable, causing often a bad temper and easily constipation, which al worsens the overproduction of comedones in the face
2. Use neutral soap to wash the face, keep it fresh and clean and avoid applying too much cosmetic products (make-up) on it.
C. Some points of attention for women
Irregular menstruation, especially when too early, and accompanied by a dry mouth and burning feeling of the tongue needs to be regulated by medicine, in order to make the acne curing process more effective.
